I received this line several years ago, but when I first grew it out, it completely fell apart — it was still very heterogeneous. There were many candidate varieties among them, but since most were indistinguishable from other types, by last year only this single version remained on the list under the name OH/BB/22/5/1.
Last year I wanted to give it a final name, but I was uncertain about its stability, and it didn’t ripen properly in time, so I couldn’t collect any seeds.
This year, however, all 15 plants turned out identical, meaning it’s 99% stable.
Its name is “Xanthe,” referring to its color — the word comes from Greek and means “blonde” or “yellow.”
It’s an indeterminate, tall, slender variety, reaching 250 cm or more, recommended to be grown with multiple stems. It produces many fruit clusters, usually with 3–8 fruits per truss. Fruit size varies widely, ranging from giant 600–700 g specimens to smaller 150 g ones. The tomatoes are very pointed in shape, which remains consistent even under varying temperatures, and blossom end rot due to calcium deficiency is very rare.
Its flavor is fruity, with sweet and tangy notes, a Brix value of 5.9, and soft flesh.
