The Sergeant Pineapple, or Sgt. Pineapple, is one of the most beautiful Sgt. Pepper’s selections I’ve ever seen. It has only minimal relation to the original variety—mainly in appearance—and was bred by the Russian breeder Sofia Saakova.
It’s an indeterminate variety, a truly tall and slender plant that grew stems nearly 3 meters long. It’s best grown with multiple stems. It tolerates drought very well and is not affected by blossom end rot caused by calcium deficiency.
The fruits are relatively small, weighing between 80 and 200 grams, with extremely dense flesh. The anthocyanin pigmentation on the skin develops even under low light, so up to 80% of the fruit surface can turn black.
Its flavor is fruity and very sweet.
